The laser emits a coherent, very powerful, and monochromatic light, meaning a single wavelength.

The laser beam is absorbed by black or brown colors: this means that only dark hairs can be treated. No machine currently can remove blond or gray hair!

All areas of the body can be treated.

Hair Cycles and Sessions

Not all hairs grow at the same time and you only see a part of them. The other part is in a resting phase, which can last several months. The session is only effective on hairs in the growth phase (anagen), and to exhaust the hair capital of an area, it must be treated repeatedly over a period of 12 to 18 months. 6 to 8 (or even 10) sessions may be necessary to destroy 95% of hairs. Since the bulb is the target of our treatment, any waxing or plucking is prohibited during the treatment. However, the skin must be clean, meaning shaved (or with depilatory cream) 1 to 2 days before each session. After each session, it is recommended to use a moisturizing or anti-inflammatory cream such as Flammazine© or Biafine©.

Program

It depends on regrowth and the treated area as well as the initial hairiness. Usual schedule:

  • 4 weeks between the first and second session;
  • 4 to 6 weeks between the second and third session;
  • 6 to 8 weeks between other sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a laser?

The word L.A.S.E.R. is an English acronym meaning: Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The laser is therefore a light: it has only one color and is defined by its wavelength. Laser light passes through the epidermis and dermis to reach its specific target, the melanin of the hair (color). When the target is reached, it absorbs this light which turns into heat: it is this thermal effect that destroys the hair. To destroy the hair and especially its root (bulb), one must act during the growth phase (anagen) of the hair, when the hair shaft is still lodged in the root and the melanin concentration is the densest. Since not all hairs in a given area are in the growth phase at the same time, destroying all hairs requires multiple sessions.

The laser is a medical device adjusted according to each patient’s skin type and hair color. The laser emits a fine light whose wavelength targets melanin, one of the components of hair. This light passes through the skin, protected by a cooling system, to reach the follicle and thus impair its ability to produce hair. Your skin is respected. The laser used is called “Alexandrite”.

What are the advantages of laser hair removal?

After the main treatment, there is more than 90% hair-free result on the entire body, which represents a real comfort in life. Some areas, such as the underarms or bikini line, often show 100% permanent hair removal. Not to mention that any remaining hairs are always lighter and finer. All areas of the face and body can be treated, for both women and men.

Laser hair removal is an excellent treatment for ingrown hairs or excessive hair growth.

How many sessions are needed? At what frequency?

Each person has their own hair capital, which is why the number of sessions varies from person to person. On average, 6 to 10 sessions are needed on most areas, except for the face which may require more! The spacing between sessions also varies depending on the individual and the area. It is approximately 4 weeks between the first and second session, 4 to 6 weeks between the second and third session, and 6 to 8 weeks between other sessions.

Are there any contraindications?

Pregnancy, tanning, and treatment on children are the only absolute contraindications. Dark skin tones and photosensitizing treatments require precautions. As for bleached or white hair, the laser cannot remove them at all. Contraindications are relative in cases of wounds, infections, inflammations, and photosensitizing medications.

In any case:

The skin must be absolutely white during each laser treatment. This means that the skin MUST NOT BE EXPOSED to the SUN or UV RAYS at least 12 weeks before and 4 weeks after each treatment. Walking, biking, and gardening are also considered sun exposure. The skin must always be protected with total sunscreen (SPF 50+).

What are the post-treatment effects?

Immediately after the session, the skin is more or less red and a small, completely normal swelling may appear at the base of each hair. These reactions are proof of effective hair removal; they last only a few hours and are alleviated by the regular application of a greasy cream such as Flammazine or Biafine.

Laser hair removal goes unnoticed, even on the face, since makeup is allowed immediately. On dark skin, pigmentation changes may sometimes occur, but they are temporary and disappear with the first sun exposure.

Is it dangerous?

A laser can never cause cancer; however, one must avoid exposing nevi and other “brown spots” to the laser. Each medical laser has a specific use and the main risk of its use is burning the skin. A well-calibrated laser does not burn the skin while remaining effective. The skill and experience of the TREATING DOCTOR determine the quality of the laser hair removal.

Is it painful?

The treatment consists of a series of pulses accompanied by a tingling and slight burning sensation. The sensation is comparable to receiving a series of rubber band snaps. Most patients tolerate this treatment without anesthesia. Patients who wish can receive topical anesthesia via cream. In the minutes following treatment, the treated area becomes pink; patients may feel a sunburn-like sensation, which quickly disappears.

What is the difference between laser hair removal and other hair removal methods?

Laser hair removal allows for rapid treatment of large areas, results in more durable hair reduction, and progressively alters hair regrowth.

Who can get laser hair removal?

Anyone meeting the above conditions and wishing to be free from traditional hair removal or to get rid of unsightly hair. Both men and women have access to this treatment. In addition to the time and money saved by laser hair removal in a patient’s life, the laser offers a solution to ingrown hair problems, commonly found in the bikini area and men’s beard area.

Is it an expensive treatment?

It depends on the number of areas to be treated. However, it should be considered an investment.

Contraindications:
