Wrinkle Treatment

Whether it concerns young or older people, the face can in these different cases present either signs of volume loss related to aging or phenomena of atrophy or asymmetry.

Well-known fillers such as hyaluronic acid, hydroxyapatite (Radiesse©), polylactic acid (New-Fill©, Sculptra©) can provide solutions to these functional or aesthetic problems.

Alongside these techniques, there is a procedure that uses the patient’s own fat. Removed by cannula through liposuction, the fat must be treated to be reinjected where volume loss is noted. This solution is reversible as the reinjected fat will be gradually resorbed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is lipofilling, also called lipostructure?

Lipofilling or lipostructure involves using the patient’s own fat as a corrective implant. The fat is aspirated with a syringe and reinjected after treatment into the concerned areas. The extraction is preferably done at the knees, inner thighs, hips, or saddle bags. In the abdomen, fat cells are sensitive to weight variations and thus less suitable for this procedure. The harvested fat tissue is rinsed and then centrifuged carefully to keep the fat cells intact and alive, and to eliminate the non-cellular supernatant. These cells can then be reinjected into the desired area. A portion of the injected fat cells will resorb within the first week, which is why a slight “overcorrection” is necessary.

Where does the reinjected fat come from?

From the knees, inner thighs, hips, or saddle bags.

What areas can be treated?

On the face, lipofilling can fill hollow areas but can also be used for increasing the volume of the lips. On the body, fat can be used to fill volume loss due to trauma (falls, hematomas), surgeries, and even to increase breast volume.

What treatment does the fat undergo?

Rinsing with saline solution and centrifugation to separate the cells from the fat.

Is the treatment quick?

It takes about 2 hours.

Are the results lasting?

More lasting than synthetic fillers but not permanent. Indeed, this is a true graft of living cells that will therefore, for a certain number of them, retain the ability to survive and multiply (cf. the stem cells present in adipose tissue).

What are the side effects?

Redness, swelling (edema), and bruising in the injected areas. At the extraction sites, the postoperative period corresponds to that of localized liposuction.

When can I return to work?

This varies depending on the treated areas.

Are there any contraindications?

Pregnancy, infections, the use of anticoagulants are of course the main contraindications. In any case, the medical history and clinical examination determine the final decision.

When should this treatment be performed?

Age is not the only deciding factor; it all depends on the location and the desired goal.
