Venous disease is a chronic condition that progresses over the years.

In addition to dilated veins protruding in the thighs or calves, one may gradually observe the appearance of (micro-) varicosities forming reddish or bluish branching patterns on the skin.

The treatment of varicose disease involves sclerotherapy or stripping (or phlebectomy: surgical removal of the affected venous trunk).

The treatment of varicosities consists of sclerosing them either chemically (injections) or thermally (laser).

Lack of treatment for this disease can sometimes lead to complications such as embolisms or ulcers.

Prevention remains essential to slow the progression of varicose disease.
